1. Windows 11 and Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button and select Apps and Features (on Windows 11 this opens Installed apps).
- Find Avast Secure Browser. On Windows 11 click the ⋮ (three dots) next to it and select Uninstall; on Windows 10 click the entry and select Uninstall.
- If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes.
- Optionally tick Also delete your browsing data to remove bookmarks, history and other profile data, then click Uninstall.
- Wait for the uninstaller to finish. You can skip the short survey that follows.
On older Windows versions, open Control Panel, choose Programs and Features (or Uninstall a program), right-click Avast Secure Browser and select Uninstall. If the normal uninstall fails or the browser keeps returning, use Avast's dedicated uninstall tool for Secure Browser, which removes all of its files.
2. macOS
- Make sure Avast Secure Browser is not running: right-click its icon in the Dock and select Quit.
- In the Finder menu bar, click Go and select Applications.
- Right-click (Control-click) Avast Secure Browser and select Move to Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
To remove leftover settings and cache, check ~/Library/Application Support/ and ~/Library/Caches/ for Avast Secure Browser folders and delete them.
3. Android and iPhone
- Android: open Google Play, search for Avast Secure Browser and tap Uninstall, or go to Settings, Apps, Avast Secure Browser, Uninstall.
- iPhone and iPad: touch and hold the app icon, tap Remove App, then Delete App and confirm.
4. Change your default browser
If Avast Secure Browser was your default, links may open in an unexpected app after you remove it. Set the browser you want instead:
- Windows 11: Settings, Apps, Default apps, select your browser and click Set default.
- Windows 10: Settings, Apps, Default apps, then choose your browser under Web browser.
- macOS: System Settings, Desktop & Dock, Default web browser.
5. Stop it from coming back
Avast Secure Browser is often offered during the installation of Avast antivirus, and some users have reported it returning after an update. When you install or update Avast or AVG security software, read each installer screen and untick the browser offer if it appears. If it reinstalls anyway, remove it again with Avast's uninstall tool.
